Criterion 1.4.5 fire safety management

 e. Criterion 1.4.5

The Puskesmas prepares, maintains, implements and evaluates fire safety management including evacuation facilities.

1) Main Thoughts:

a) Every health facility, including Community Health Centers, has a risk of fire. Fire safety management needs to be developed as a form of health center preparedness for fires. If a fire occurs, service users, staff and visitors must be evacuated and kept safe.

b) What is meant by protection system is the provision of fire protection both actively and passively. Active fire protection, for example fire extinguishers, sprinklers, heat detectors and smoke detectors, while passive fire protection, for example: evacuation routes, emergency doors, emergency stairs and safe gathering points.

c) Smoking in health care facilities can be a source of fire. Puskesmas must stipulate a smoking ban in the Puskesmas environment, both for staff, service users and visitors. The smoking ban must be obeyed by officers, service users and visitors. Implementation of this prohibition must be monitored.

2) Assessment Elements:

a) Fire safety management (D,O,W) is carried out.

b) Inspection, testing and maintenance of early detection equipment, alarms, evacuation routes and the functioning of fire extinguishers (D,O) are carried out.

c) Annual simulations and evaluations of fire safety management (D,W,S) are carried out.

d) A no-smoking policy has been established for staff, service users and visitors in the Puskesmas area (R,O,W).
